2012 Riserva

Four and a half years in the making and we are proud to release the 2nd

Foster e Rocco Riserva Sangiovese from the acclaimed 2012 vintage.

The Riserva came about when Mark Walpole from Greenstone Vineyard offered us two tonnes of the Brunello clone Sangiovese from the rich pre Cambrian soil. The clones were unique to Heathcote it was an opportunity, which we couldn’t afford to let go.

This wine demonstrates to us that Heathcote has the ability to make world class Sangiovese.

2012 Foster e Rocco Riserva – at a glance winemaking

  • De-stemmed grapes were cold soaked for 7 days at 8 degrees
  • Natural ferment occurred and only hand plunged throughout it’s two week fermentation
  • It was drained and pressed into seasoned French oak barrels (15% new oak) where it was left untouched for 18 months in barrel. No racking and no sulphur
  • Wine was unfined, unfiltered and bottled with minimal SO2 added
  • Once in bottle we played the waiting game until this wine truly shone

The response so far has been amazing, and a little overwhelming.
